Saturday, April 18th: Rokko Mountain "Mountain Incense Making" Workshop [Reservations Required]
At MCKK, we've proposed "the sensibility of a detour" as a theme, suggesting we open up our everyday senses through scent and conduct.
However, this is not something that can be fully conveyed through words or products alone; we also feel it's necessary for people to experience it firsthand.
This time, we will be holding an event in Mt. Rokko that will serve as an entryway to this concept.

The venue is Rokko Silence Resort.
It's a Western-style building characteristic of Kobe, surrounded by mountains and the sea.
It's a place where you can feel a slightly different flow of time amidst the natural tranquility and atmosphere.
Arima Onsen is also nearby.
"Listening" to Scents
This experience begins with a time dedicated to "listening to scents."
In Japan, there is a cultural practice of using the word "listen" (聞く, kiku) instead of "smell" (嗅ぐ, kagu) for scents.
It's a time to tune in to what sensations arise, rather than simply processing the scent as information.
While in other countries, scents are often used for self-expression, the Japanese approach to scent involves a sense of turning one's awareness inward.
It's a feeling of directing the scent inward, rather than outward.
In this experience, we will use this sense of "listening" as a starting point, relying on the sensations that arise within ourselves to choose our scents.
The Act of Creating by Hand
After that, you will select scents and create incense.
The act of creating with your hands is much closer to your senses than you might imagine.
In daily life, we often choose based on criteria like "what's right" or "what's most efficient," but during this time, we try to set those criteria aside for a moment.
Instead of seeking reasons or meanings, you simply move your hands and feel the scent.
By doing so, senses you weren't even aware of might just open up a little.
Why we are hosting this event
The reason I wanted to hold this event was to deliver what MCKK proposes not through words, but through experience.
I believe that a detour is not about stopping something or resting, but rather a smallきっかけ (trigger) to return to our inherent senses.
It's a time that's a little different from relaxation or refreshment,
a time to step away from current thoughts and connect with a different circuit.
If we can create a moment in the quiet atmosphere of Rokko to touch upon that trigger.
With that in mind, we are opening this space.
If the timing works out, I'd be delighted if you could just drop by.
